Bio
Bernabei’s current research concerns emotionally embedded artifacts and their impact on our ‘self’ and as an aid to wellbeing. Other research interests include the application of Rapid Prototyping to reinvigorate traditional goldsmith techniques. Her latest curatorial project investigates possibilities of widening fruition of jewellery exhibitions through a sensory and digital experience. She is currently curating an exhibition ‘Talking Jewellery’ with curator Maria Cristina Bergesio for the forthcoming international event Florence Jewellery Week in May 2020.Statement
Her work ranges from publications such as the monograph Contemporary Jewellers: Interviews with European Artists to international exhibitions at the Museum of Arts & Crafts, Itami; Museum of Contemporary Craft, Portland; Museo Arti Decorative, Turin; and Kunstgeweremuseum, Berlin. Her work has won awards from the EPSRC to the Craft Council. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Jewellery Research (JJR). This journal is a peer-reviewed online and open-access publication that focuses on the design, theory and praxis of jewellery studies. Bernabei instigated JJR in 2015 and it was co-founded together with Prof. Jayne Wallace. She is affiliated with International Jewellery Associations and works as an academic at Loughborough University.-
