Observations from a Distance
The very name Karin Johansson has assigned to her project presented in this publication sets the tone for the works emanating from it. Through them, the artist conjures up the image of something distant, something out of reach. It could be about a recollection of something lost, or a memory of something forgotten.
The title, to be sure, also provides a description of the artist’s working method. To see things more clearly, Karin Johansson has stepped outside the objects of her creation. From a distance, structures become visible and one’s intentions with the work begin to take shape. At the heart of observations are impressions – of a situation, a time, and a place. To that extent, Karin Johansson’s pieces can be said to be impressionistic: they have no representational ambition but, rather, assemble impressions into a coherent whole.
/ Part of the text by Anna T Wolgers, artist and writer.
Designed by Eggs, Lions & Pencils / Anders Kornestedt & Kristina Backlund.
It´s the third time collaboration, and once again an innovative and beautiful publication that corresponds with the jewellery and the theme as a whole. The inside of the folded pages are colored in the same soft beige tone as the acrylic, which is used in several of the jewellery pieces. The colored pages also connect with the design of the earlier publications Collecting Butterflies and Abstractions of a City. The generous size, the finedetailed pictures and the choice of paper results in a visual as well as a tactile experience, and make the jewellery almost touchable.
