Intro
An international project was born from the desire of the Art Course Gallery team to present in Strasbourg this new field of art jewelry, which is constantly changing internationally. This domain is acquiring its recognition by being presented in more and more museums and institutions across the globe, with Jewelry Weeks happening every year in the largest capitals on all continents.

Artist list

Sharareh Aghaei, Isabelle Azais, Sara Barbanti, Laurent Brune, Isabelle Busnel, Gemma Canal, Sébastien Carré, Marine Chevanse, Ana Escobar, Maria Rosa Franzin, Magali Thibault Gobeil, Alexandra Estarlich Gomez, Holland Houdek, Augustin Jans, Vicky Kanellopoulos, Lodie Kardouss, Mia Kwon, Ariel Lavian, Emilie Le Dez, Ria Lins, Gigi Mariani, Marie Masson, Viktoria Muenzker, Juliette Même, Wiebke Pandikow, Kim Paquet, Louise Perrone, Andrea Pineros, Cannelle Preira, Christian Quiceno, Delphine R2M, Juan Riusech, Stefano Rossi, Linda Savineau, Chiara Scarpitti, Nicole Schuster, Sílvia Serra, Sara Shahak, Isabel Tristan, Eva Van Kempen, Yiumsiri Vantanapindu
Conscious of the potential of jewelry, turned into wearable art piece able to carry a message, it finds henceforth its place in a world where the image is all powerful, where the art can be found out of the museums with the Street Art and finally at a time when the act of lowering our consumption has become a necessary act and involves no longer buying objects with a limited duration of use and planned obsolescence, but rather to privilege the meaning of the object or its unique character.

However, there is still a long road to go for the field of art jewelry to finally be recognized by the mainstream public as a new artistic form. Its theorization is underway in more and more countries and will eventually permeate the art history in a more global way so that at last we fully recognize its status of Original art piece.

My idea for enhancing it was to make an exhibition highlighting our role as an artist and our potential to convey a message in order to change our societies. Noting the rise of extremists across the globe, all forms of terrorism, the authoritarianism of some heads of state, violence against the populations, due to skin color, gender, beliefs, sexuality (or any other form of discrimination), it seemed necessary to include this exhibition in a political field.

The Open call was launched in June 2018 and was focusing on various commemorations that will be celebrated in 2019, when the exhibition will open. It also prefigures this desire that is now in the news in many countries: the request of populations to be properly represented face to the old political software in which they no longer put their trust. How can we improve our societies?

Our open call has been relayed on many international platforms of the field (such as Klimt02 or ART JEWELRY FORUM) and was spread to many international collectives and schools, the response of the artists has been more than positive and we were able to select 40 artists from 18 countries. The recognition of Strasbourg for its political role as a European capital is also to be taken into consideration in the success of this invitation to take part in this exhibition.

The profile of the artists presented will, therefore, be very diverse; some live in countries where the far right has taken power, while others place migration issues, desertification or climate change at the center of their interest. Although emerging from various cultures, the exhibition will highlight the universal nature of the messages that artists wanted to convey to the public.

Even if we are aware of the relatively small scale of our project, we hope that our messages will help to change attitudes and contribute to the transformation of politics. We want to act before the irreversibility of the 6th massive extinction already announced.
