Bio
Oles Tsura was born in 1993 in Ivano-Frankivsk, a Carpathian city in western Ukraine. From an early age, he discovered his passion for drawing, exploring new ideas and creative expression — a drive that continues to shape both his personal and professional journey, always in dialogue between art and design. His education at various Ukrainian art schools allowed him to build a solid foundation in fine, applied, and decorative arts. Following a practice-oriented training in metalwork at the Kosiv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts, he continued his path at the Lviv Academy of Arts, where he specialized in jewellery design and earned his first Bachelor of Arts degree.
Fascinated by precious metals, gemstones, and minerals, he pursued further studies in Europe. At the Trier University of Applied Sciences, Campus Idar-Oberstein, he completed a second Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on Gemstone and Jewellery Design. There, he deepened his creative and technical skills, refined his sensitivity to material aesthetics, and explored new conceptual approaches. After graduation, he worked for three years as a gemstone cutter at a local company in Idar-Oberstein.
During this time, he mastered the faceted cut technique and gained extensive hands-on experience in gemstone processing — with particular emphasis on precision, material knowledge, and artistic expression.
Oles Tsura now lives in Hildesheim, where he is pursuing his Master’s degree in Metal Design at the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts. In his studies, he deepens his design skills and continues to develop his artistic voice within the dynamic field between art, design, and material research. His work grows out of hands-on experience ranging from gemstone cutting and gemstone design to metalwork, forming an expanded conceptual approach that merges traditional techniques with
experimental methods. Part of his projects emerges through exchange with fellow students and faculty at the university, but most of his pieces take shape in the focused environment of his own studio — a quiet space where he can fully immerse himself in the process and experiment with materials. This balance between the openness of the university and the concentrated work in the studio is essential to him, as it brings together inspiration and focus.
Statement
I consider my jewellery like a lure that tricks and seduces, similar to the situation in angling where the fish encounters the bait. I was inspired by the idea of curiosity, because it is part of the human condition. Each of my works is a metaphorical reflection based on these ideas. Each of them tells small situations whose aim is to evoke stories in the viewer's memory. My pieces are made of different materials so that people want to touch and carry them.Lollipops as Jewellery – Agate Faces
This series brings five essential emotions into focus: Smile, Surprise, Wonder, Fear, and Sadness. They do not only represent individual feelings — they reflect the emotional landscape of our contemporary society.
We live in a time where emotions are both highly visible and deeply concealed. A smile is expected, surprise has become routine, wonder is rare, fear is constant, and sadness often remains hidden.
Each agate slice carries one of these states like a small mask. Its natural lines and curves reveal how quickly our inner world shifts, shaped by the pressures, uncertainties, and rapid changes around us. These brooches show how we navigate today’s world: caught between overstimulation and longing, between vulnerability and resilience.
When worn, each piece becomes a quiet statement: Emotions are not a weakness — they are a truth. They remind us that, despite the speed and noise of modern life, our feelings remain the most human part of us.
Lollipops as Jewellery – A Sweet Attraction
Inspired by the emotional and visual appeal of lollipops, I created a series of jewellery brooches that playfully explore the power of attraction. Bright colours, round shapes, and
glossy surfaces evoke childhood memories, favourite flavours, and joyful moments shared with loved ones. A lollipop can be a small token of affection, a symbol of connection, or
simply a gesture that brings a smile.
These brooches are crafted from various gemstones and materials, polished to a smooth finish that invites touch and curiosity. They are designed to draw you in – to be examined, imagined, and felt. Are they real lollipops? Try them. Let them awaken your senses, spark emotions, and remind you that beauty can be playful, personal, and deeply resonant.
