Bio
Lydia Hirte is a German artist living and working in Dresden. Graduated from the University of Applied Sciences Schwäbisch-Gmünd and the University of Applied Sciences (FHG) Pforzheim and with several international exhibitions, you can find Lydia Hirte's work in different publications and fairs. The artist is interested in the movement of lines and in the possibilities to influence them, creating sculptures that challenges the space and the materials used.Statement
I am mainly looking for spatiality, direction and movement and I am always aiming at linking wearability with sculptural form. For making my jewelry I work with drawing card using both its flexibility and its stability. My ideas arise from working with the material and my observations of what happens when forcing the bundles of card by my hand in different directions. I always use the same basic shape. For me, as an artist, it’s also very important to generate tension in the material when working. About one year ago I started to use photo card in addition to the drawing card. This offers new possibilities to extend my artistic work and adds an additional element to each work. In some of my new works I use triangles and hexagons as basic structure that holds the bundles.
