Iker Ortiz is a groundbreaking Mexican jewelry designer, heir to a family that goes back four generations into the field. He became an apprentice at his grandfather´s workshop until he was ready to establish his own and eventually, develop his iconic brand in 2005.
Iker´s vision of fine jewelry, designed to highlight the sheer beauty of the stone contrasted against the pristine quality of industrial materials, has resulted in a proposal of outstanding modern and architectural art pieces.
In addition, Iker Ortiz produces every year a new and revolutionary collection which is introduced in Zona Maco, Latin America’s most important contemporary art fair.
Artistic collaborations with top designers, recognition by design awards and engagements in top art and design fairs such as Tent, NY NOW, SIERAAD and Joya, have positioned Iker as one of the leading ambassadors of jewelry design in the country.
The brand expanded in 2019 beyond online sales, celebrating the opening of its first store in the now world-renowned Roma neighborhood in Mexico City.
Statement
There is a minimalist spirited workshop in Mexico City's Coyoacán where the smell of gold, silver and corian fills the air. Everyday, jewelers, goldsmiths and designers, all obsessed with perfection, work passionately to transform metal into art. The man behind it all is Iker Ortiz.Iker is a singular character. With a calling for architecture and bohemian soul, he is always dressed in black, keeping with the essence -less is more- that lives and breathes at his workshop. He scrutinizes every single piece a thousand times as an artist who cannot settle for anything less than perfection. Taking off his black framed eyeglasses, he focuses his gaze and mind upon every ring, finding the way of turning it into a unique conceptual piece. He believes each one of them has a story to tell and every jewel that passes through his hands speaks for itself. A Mexican designer devoted to the creation of timeless rings, bracelets, necklaces, cufflinks and more by successfully combining industrial technology with the sophistication of the handmade craft.
Iker's past, present and future lie within the goldsmith craft. Heir to a family of jewellers that goes back four generations, it was from a very early age that he was learning from his father how to ride a bicycle while also being shown the path towards his own work. A path that would eventually lead such work to achieve recognition beyond Mexico, in the world´s top design fairs held in London, Barcelona, Amsterdam and New York.
The restless search for geometric shapes, fearless experimentation with all kinds of metals and precious stones, design innovation, exceptional quality, a profound passion for jewelry and attentive service, define his whole team of collaborators.
Every year, Iker Ortiz creates and delivers to the world a new convention shattering collection in which platinum, titanium, stainless steel, corian, silver, gold, stones and diamonds, all become contemporary art pieces that will transcend time.
