Bio
Shifting from journalism to an in-depth exploration of contemporary jewellery led May to focus on using her research, storytelling and communication skills to explore the narrative of contemporary jewellery expressed through unconventional materials and techniques. Over the years May has developed a personal language in her jewellery pieces. She adds paint and drawings to organic forms, which she uses as canvases, transcending formats and redefining them. Her creations are imbued with meanings that come to life through the artist's hands in pieces that seek intimate communication with their recipient. Her pieces are infused of poetry, memory and a sublimation of life through colour and form. Her work has been recognised with several international awards:
- New York Sculpture to Wear Award, 2022
- Romanian Jewellery Week Award, 2021
- Vogue Award on Creativity, Milano Fashion Week 2018
In October 2025 she take part at the Venice Design Week. In June 2024, she exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum selected by the Japanese Contemporary Jewellery Association. And in 2022 she exhibited at the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions in galleries in Porto (Tincal Lab), Sydney (Bridget Kennedy Project Space), London (Magan Gallery), Paris (Galerie Sophie etc), Munich (Schmuck), Rome (Galleria Carlo Lucidi), Milan (Milano Jewelry Week), Turin (Galleria Creativity Oggetti), Bucharest (Romanian Jewelry Week), Budapest (Kiscell Museum), Cagnes sur Mer (Destination Bijoux), Barcelona (Off Joya Barcelona), Madrid (Museum of Decorative Arts, etc.), Valencia (Melting Point), etc.
Statement
I like to see my work as poetry taking form through lines, colors, volume and shapes. I think I’m always talking about underwritten stories that eventually take the shape of a piece in their need to get free and express. With my pieces I dive into emotions, exploring the depths of the soul. Tactile feelings on volume going from subtle to categorical, since among these extremes is where life takes place.
