Von Hier und Dort - From Here and There, an exhibition of international jewellery artists in publication by the Jewellery Class University of Art and Design Halle.
From Here and There gathers a group of established international artists who represent the current state of jewellery art and reflect the way jewellery is understood and taught in the Jewellery Class at Burg Giebichenstein. These artists no longer belong to the young set. They are established names and influencal in the world of Author-Jewellery but are not yet the venerable old masters. The jewellery we see here reflects individual thoughts and ideas on various aspects of life, phenomena and the world we live in. It presents these thoughts and reflections to individual persons to identify with, to contemplate and then to contribute to by wearing the jewellery and thereby communicating these ideas to a wider public.
The jewellery ranges from the small dimensioned and discrete to bold demonstrative statements. The range includes the painterly approach of using colour as a material means of expression as well as a means of evoking moods and associations; the use of objets trouvés for quoting and referring to collective memories and experience or as ready-made components for use in abstract compositions; the investigation of form, space and illusion and the physical properties of things; both the figurative as well as metaphoric reference to nature as a source of life; references to history and tradition, to human emotions, to questions of place and identity, the society we live in and to crafting as the primal sense giving activity of humankind.
