The winner of the JPLUS Emerging Talent Award 2019 is Esther Heite, who graduated at Hochschule Düsseldorf, Peter Behrens School of Arts, Applied Art and Design, Düsseldorf, where she has studied under Professor Jantje Fleischhut.

The Prize consists of a professional jeweller profile at klimt02.net and an exhibition at Hannah Gallery Barcelona by Klimt02.

Klimt02 team decided to award Esther Heite for her conceptual and aesthetical works. Good knowledge of the material she uses, what can be seen in her clean well made pieces. Her concepts are transmitted into easily wearable pieces, and she is playing with the classical forms of jewellery, reinterpreting them in a modern way. Also, her choice of the material (stainless steel) is an interesting decision, not only technically challenging but also a sustainable thought. She adds sparks of silver and gold as valuable detail, in contrast to pieces made totally from silver & gold.

Jantje Fleischhut Professor at the school states:
Esther Heite shows great talent in all three different contents of the study resp. the different areas of the design field. A strong sensitivity for material, form and colour accompanies her projects since the very beginning. Her examining character presents itself very successful in the end; in her final thesis and in her jewellery pieces. The graduation work is both practically and theoretically very strong. For her final semester, she deals with the world of things, material culture and social aspects. Her design process is preceded by a question and basic analysis. She examines how we see things, what we see in them, how we read them, what they mean to us, what they ask and challenge us to do.

Esther Heite states:
My artwork demonstrates a confrontation with the world of material matters. Prior to my research, I assumed that the purely physical characteristics and functions of objects were more deeply bound to non-material attributes and symbolic energies. The alienation of the familiar connectivity (or context), of the function or form, generates paradoxes that are intended to stimulate the carrier for reflection. The explorative handling of the technology of welding activates in my workflow a new ornamental function. Combining the ornament and the function, all pieces of jewellery are characterized by some kind of fusion.
