Bio
Taibe Palacios (Chile) Designer, artist, jeweler.Shortly after graduating in Design, Taibe began her career as an author and illustrator of children’s books. She later continued her studies in jewelry, and since 2002 has worked from her studio creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.
Over the years, Taibe has become increasingly interested in contemporary art jewelry, creating wearable artworks that exist between sculpture—understood as a public statement inviting reflection and dialogue—and the body as a carrier of meaning.
Through years of experimentation, she has developed a body of work using organic and sustainable materials collected from nature, primarily seaweed from her home country. One of her earliest seaweed-based pieces was included in the permanent collection of the Espace Solidor Museum.
Her work has been recognized with the FIO Award (2021), the Contemporania Award at AUTOR (2023), and the Universus Award at AUTOR (2023). She has also been a finalist at the Enjoia’t Awards in 2021, 2022, and 2024. Taibe actively exhibits her work both nationally and internationally, including a solo exhibition “Transform and Re´-Define” at Universus Gallery, Athens, Greece, 2023; and group exhibitions in Beijing, Dubai and along Europe.
Currently, Taibe is an educator teaching creative jewelry to young students and serves as a member of the board of directors of Joya Brava, the Chilean Contemporary Jewellery Association.
Statement
My work focuses on contemporary art jewellery, creating wearable artworks that exist between sculpture and the body. I aim to dissolve the boundaries between jewellery and fine art, exploring how material, form, and narrative intersect to reshape our relationship with objects and the body.Jewellery is an intimate object that, when worn, becomes part of the body and enters the public sphere, where its meaning is shaped through interaction between object, wearer, and viewer. In my practice, it moves beyond adornment to become a public statement: the wearer participates actively, the body carries meaning, and the piece invites reflection and dialogue.
Sustainability is central to my practice. I work with overlooked materials, developing a body of work that transforms seaweed into wearable sculptures.
Through processes of material transformation, I engage the seaweed in dialogue with form, merging conceptual inquiry with tactile experimentation, each piece merges as a physical trace of the creative process. This approach challenges traditional hierarchies of value in jewellery, encouraging reflection on how value is constructed by its ability to connect with social, emotional, and symbolic narratives, rather than preciousness.
