A catalogue featuring all the selected works in Gioielli in...Fermento 2014. The book highlights the aim of the project and the theme of this year, and shows the pieces selected together with a brief description by the artists.
Every year Gioielli in Fermento (Jewels in Ferment) aims to gather the infinitely individual expressions of contemporary jewellery makers in relation to popular themes: wine and territories, looking at this terroir as an ensemble of deep-rooted cultural values and elements. This 4th edition of Gioielli in Fermento (Jewels in Ferment), consists of a competition and relative exhibition of unique pieces of jewellery inspired by a specific theme. Winners will earn the Torre Fornello Award, presented in collaboration with AGC associazione gioiello contemporaneo, Joya Barcelona Art Jewellery Fair e Klimt02 International Art Jewellery Online.
The exhibition is hosted at Torre Fornello Winery which has dedicated its impressive spaces to the ‘Vineyard of Arts’ and enjoys the possibility of transferring to other cultural contexts related to contemporary jewellery or to the world of wine - both representing the values of Italian excellence - over the course of the year: wearing intensity, wearing the colours of wine, wearing Mediterranean sensitivities, identities, and cultures by choosing a piece of contemporary jewellery.
The theme this year concerns the world of colours as the main concept at the heart of contemporary jewellery, a means of expressing all degrees of intensity, almost a metaphor for all added value and meaning, like the “colour” a composer uses in instructing performers on how to play a piece of music. Colour becomes an instrument of individual expression, both material and immaterial, a way to commit to the pieces in Gioielli in Fermento a link between each story and a broader identification of that Mediterranean accent the culture of wine and our territories represent. It is up to each one of us to explore this intensity, to wear as a manifesto of our affinities.
“As you know, the images formed in our brain are not a photographic reproduction of reality, but an interpretation and processing of light produced by pigments from our brain, which processes memory too, completing details that we don’t detect, finishing the unfinished (...). As Matisse guessed: to see is already a creative operation that requires an effort. Colour is the first thing the brain perceives, followed by shapes, then movement.” (P.L. Albini, Paul Klee. Una ricognizione. Seminario di studio, 2004)
