Intro
Gioielli in Fermento is an international exhibition project and award for contemporary studio jewelry. Starting from the landscapes of Italy in the wine-making region of Emilia hills, enjoying positive and inspiring environments, it opens its borders involving established and emerging artists from different countries to express their relation with this particular context. The contemporary jewellery here may be seen as a “fermenting” creative process: the challenge is to turn natural and available elements into something precious and unique.

A special attention is paid to the students' section, involving institutes for art education, based all over the world, which would offer an interesting view to younger students and undergraduates looking for further in/depth experiences (learning and master degree categories).
Since 2011, more than 500 artists and pieces have been presented under the selection of an international board of advisors in the field. The announcement of the contest deadline is by the first two months of the year for each edition.
The resulting exhibition is hosted in the impressive local spaces of our territory, such as Torre Fornello Winery (2011- 2017) and now Villa Braghieri, a building of cultural heritage in the City of Castel San Giovanni (Piacenza, Italy).
The opening of exhibition celebrates the Gioielli in Fermento Award ceremony in collaboration with important international institutions in the field: Agc Italian association for contemporary jewellery, Joya Barcelona Art Jewellery & Object and Klimt02 Art Jewellery online network.
Every year, the Master Collection is hosted in further exhibiting venues through the Gioielli in Fermento #gallery activity, which offers an effective set up involving visitors in different contexts, thanks to the real authenticity of this project.

With the publication of the Gioielli in Fermento Master Collection in 2017, the undertaking of a more precise path became necessary for a deserved esteem of the works gradually conceived within the annual phases of the theme competition. In the previous six editions a significant number of works have been realized and currently the Master Collection presents a meaningful series of selected works, published in the volume of the 2017 edition. Each new annual collection will be intertwined to it. By that, each author is periodically involved in new exhibition opportunities and related projects.
The development of the project earned the appreciation of the reference figures contacted during the past editions and allowed decisive ways of confrontation that supported its own growth, qualifying it thanks to the annual juries. The advisory board came from this evolution, coordinated by Eliana Negroni, founder of the competition award.

The theme - Private time and social interaction
May jewellery nowadays be associated with our private time and, or, to our best moments to share?
Does it fulfil personal wishes and, or, social interaction?
Artists have been invited to develop their own concept within this issue.
It may recall you once again to the analogy of a good glass of wine which can accompany a warm homely atmosphere or your best time to share with others, to raise connection with people. These aspects are typical of the Mediterranean lands and traditions yet they are spreading also in the countries which had not a historical link to the culture of wine.
Moreover, the competition is about jewellery “fermentation”: artists may interpret the theme according to their inspiration, provided that a certain kind of immaterial factor would reconnect their own work – a wearable object –  to the idea of development and research in contemporary art jewellery: an outstanding result will come from a combination of concept, form, individuality, original technique, wearable feature.
The selection heeds to the quality of each presented work and cares for the coherence on the theme connected to the 2018 edition of the exhibiting project.
The Gioielli in Fermento Award consists in the opportunity - for the awarded artist - to exhibit his/her own collection in a reserved space at JOYA Art Jewellery & Objects, that this year will be held at the Design Museum in Barcelona, thanks to the established support given by this renowned event for contemporary jewellery in the Mediterranean region, together with Allied Group, a multinational company with its heart-based in Val Tidone.
