Intro
Romanian Jewelry Week (ROJW) will open its gates from the 2nd to the 6th of October at the National Library of Romania for its five-year anniversary edition. The most complex contemporary jewelry event in Romania will include a wide range of exhibitions, fairs, opening events, guided tours and many other surprises. Three exquisite collaborations will also hallmark this special edition – Diploma Show 2024, Goethe Institute and AlbAlb.
With over 230 designers and collectives from over 40 different countries, Romanian Jewelry Week is bringing together the most innovative and talented minds from the world of contemporary jewelry. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover unique creations and interact with nationally and internationally renowned artists. This edition will also be highlighted by the presence of many distinguished and special guests, amongst whom will be German artist Michael Berger, Brussels Jewelry Week, Slovenian Jewelry Week, Legnica Silver Festival, International Amber Association, Global Creative Graduate Show, and many others.

This edition’s jury includes internationally prestigious figures from the fields of jewelry and art:
  • David Sandu, curator and founder of ROJW
  • Byron Vafeiadis, curator of Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum of Athens
  • Justyna Teodorczyk, director of Legnica Art Gallery in Poland
  • Irina Probst, exhibition manager at Inhorgenta Munich
  • Magdalena Velez, AdOC president and organizer of MUESTRA-ORFEBRERIA CONTEMPORANEA, in Madrid
  • Charon Kransen, Charon Kransen Arts New York
  • Lisa Balasso, founder of Venice Design Week
  • Special prizes will be assigned by partner organizations, such as Assamblage Contemporary Jewelry School (prize assigned by Andreia Gabriela Popescu), Lost in Jewellery Magazine, MyDaybyDay Gallery and many others.

To mark this anniversary edition, the Romanian Jewelry Week catalogue for 2020-2024 will be launched - a collection which will encompass the most impressive and representative works of the last five years, reflecting the evolution and variety of the contemporary jewelry exhibited at Romanian Jewelry Week.  Through these adjacent events, conferences and special exhibitions, Romanian Jewelry Week will create a space fit for cultural exchange, leaving visitors with a fascinating yet accessible perspective on jewelry. The exhibition will not only consist of jewelry pieces, but also wearable sculptures, capable of profoundly transforming its wearer.

Astounding and in constant reinvention as it is, contemporary jewelry is yet again reborn, with each generation of artists, designers and creators who are passionate towards this ancestral discipline, which nevertheless rejuvenates every year. The cultural perspective of jewelry is becoming progressively more attractive and challenging. The target audience is becoming wider and wider, and the privilege brought by jewelry as a form of art, that to wear the works of artists and to therefore become ambassadors of creators and their ideas, is more inciting than ever. I believe that contemporary jewelry will continue to take us by surprise and to persist in proving its creative quality. New materials, new technologies and new ideas await you at ROJW, and the anniversary ROJW 2020-2024 catalogue will surely confirm the broadness and beauty of this field.
/ David Sandu, Founder and Curator of Romanian Jewelry Week.
