Assamblage was founded as a Contemporary Jewelry School in October 2010 at the initiative of designer David Sandu as the first educational platform in Romania dedicated to jewelry design and a foundation for a new generation of contemporary jewelry designers and artists rising to international standards.
Over the years, Assamblage held over 150 training sessions and counts over 700 alumni. It has become a place where people meet to talk, learn new things and start projects together. A continuous educational program of 10 years positions Assamblage as one of the few viable training options in Romania in the field of contemporary jewelry.
In 2015, Assamblage Association was created, as a result of a 5-year project of supporting, developing, and structuring the emerging field of contemporary jewelry in Romania. Today, Assamblage is the most active platform in Romania dedicated to the craft and design of contemporary jewelry, developing between 2015 and 2019 over 25 national and international projects and exhibitions worldwide, including over 50 Romanian and international artists. Assamblage is also the organizer of Romanian Jewelry Week, an annual international event dedicated to contemporary jewelry designers worldwide.
In 2020, Assamblage School of Contemporary Jewelry changes its headquarters and becomes Assamblage - The Institute of Art and Design. Its discourse and mission expand into a new multidisciplinary educational direction, adding new courses and workshops in ceramics, engraving, photography, drawing, 3D prototyping, cultural marketing, and more. A new creative space for study, dialogue, and experimentation, hosted in a house in Dimitrie Racoviță Street no. 18, Bucharest, Romania.
